Mercedes Lewis Hamilton heads to Bahrain this weekend hoping to claim back to back victories following his dominant lights to flag win at the Malaysian Grand Prix where he finished 17 seconds ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg.
When asked about the race in Malaysia Hamilton said:
'It was great to kick-start my season with a win in Malaysia' he told crash.net. Hamilton failed to finish the opening race of the season in Melbourne, a race which saw his team mate Nico Rosberg take victory and following his second place in Malaysia the German has now extended his lead at the top of the Driver's championship.
Hamilton went on to say:
'Taking a one-two was also a fantastic result for the team and I can't wait to see what we can do in Bahrain. I've finished on the podium here a couple of times here but, for one reason or another, I've never managed to get the win. Until last week it was the same story for me with Malaysia, so fingers crossed this can be the year of breaking those cycles!'
Although Hamilton has never won in Bahrain, he heads to the Sakhir circuit having taken pole position in the wet in Malaysia and then taking the win. So the momentum is currently with the 2008 champion and the Silver Arrows.
This year's Bahrain Grand Prix will be a new departure for the Gulf state as the race will held under floodlights as Formula One has added another night race to its race schedule for 2014.
Meanwhile Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff expects that the inter-team rivalry between his two driver's will boil over at some point this season saying:
'We are spending quite some time discussing those things, discussing scenarios and discussing situations'
Mercedes have so far this season shown that they have the fastest overall package however, Hamilton's retirement from the Australian Grand Prix shows that the W05 may be quick but it is also a fragile car. It will be interesting to see how the team get on this weekend.
