Finnish television station MTV3 are reporting this evening that they have been told by ‘pretty good sources’ that Williams Martini Racing Team’s highly rated Valtteri Bottas will join Sebastian Vettel at Scuderia Ferrari but not until 2017 as the Maranello based outfit look set to take up their option on Kimi Raikkonen for 2016 but not until later this season.

Bottas has made no comment on any potential move to Ferrari however, and it is understood that no letter of intent has been signed between the Finn and the Italian team.

It is believed however that if Raikkonen does not stay at the Prancing Horse beyond the end of next season then the Italian team will look to sign Bottas. It is believed however that any potential deal between Bottas and Ferrari would depend on whether or not Williams take up their option on the Finn.

Bottas had an incredible season in 2014 finishing the year in fourth place in the championship on 186 points having secured a number of podium finishes and a front row start at the Austrian Grand Prix. It is unlikely that Williams would give up on retaining Bottas should Ferrari want to sign him.

It is not the first time that Bottas has been linked with a move to Ferrari as he was linked with a drive with the Prancing Horse for this season but Ferrari signed Sebastian Vettel to race alongside Kimi Raikkonen.
