Three time Formula One world champion Sir Jackie Stewart is convinced that Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver Nico Rosberg can fight back in his bid to challenge team mate and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton for this year’s title.

Rosberg goes into the start of the European leg of the season at next weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix in second place in the championship 27 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton.

The double champion has made a fantastic start to his title defence having won three of the opening four Grand Prix while taking pole position in all of the fly-away Grand Prix so far this season. This has led to speculation that Rosberg’s chance to battle for this year’s championship has past such has been the dominance of Hamilton.

However Stewart, who won the championship in 1969, 1971 and 73 believes that the three week break between the Bahrain and Spanish Grand Prix will have been extremely beneficial to Rosberg as it will have allowed him to get his head back to the right place.

Rosberg had a fantastic race last time out in Bahrain finishing the race in third place with many suggesting that his performance in Bahrain was his best so far this season.

The German would have finished the race in second place behind team mate Lewis Hamilton however he had an issue with break by wire system which allowed Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen to close up to him and overtake him after Rosberg ran wide coming out of T1.

The German will be hoping that he can challenge for the race win next weekend in Spain.
