Pirelli Austrian Grand Prix Review

(Pirelli Motorsport)

Today's Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring saw the majority of driver's opting for a two stop strategy. This strategy saw the Mercedes AMG F1 Team finish is first and second with championship leader Nico Rsoberg leading home team mate Lewis Hamilton for the Brackley based outfit's fifth 1-2 finish of the season.

The longest stint on the Pirelli red marked Super Soft tyre was by the Marussia F1 Team's Max Chilton who completed 37 lap's while the longest stint on the Pirelli yellow marked Soft tyre was completed by the Caterham F1 Team's Kamui Kobayashi who completed 57 lap's.

The track temperature was an estimated 40 degree's however despite this both Marussia driver's Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi along with the Caterham duo of Marcus Ericsson and Kamui Kobayashi completed the race distance by completing just one pit-stop. The fastest lap time of the time was set by Sahara Force India's Sergio Perez during the first stint on the Super Soft.

The Mexican set a time of 1m 12.142s, Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery said:

'Tyre performance was very much in line with our expectations today, despite the warmer conditions. As a result of that, degradation was a little higher than we saw previously and it was a straightforward two-stop race, with a one-stopper becoming a little too ambitious for most teams. We saw an entertaining grand prix where tyre strategy was very important, and of course it’s always great to see a new face on the podium. Congratulations to Valtteri and Williams, as well as Mercedes, for a great performance all weekend.'
