Romain Grosjean's preparations for Sunday's season finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have been dealt a massive blow as the Lotus driver has been handed a 20 place grid penalty for Sunday's 55 lap race. The FIA race stewards handed down the penalty as a a result breaching Article 28.4 (a) of the Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The FIA released a statement with the reasoning behind the decision:

'The 6th ICE, TC, MGU-H has been used by car 8, this is in breach of Article 28.4 (a) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations. A 20 place grid position penalty is imposed in accordance with Article 28.4 (c) as this is the first time A 6th power unit element has been used'.
