Former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan believes that it is time for F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone to retire and hand the reigns of the sport over to someone new in light of the recent of the recent statements that the 84 year old has made.
Speaking to SportsMail, Jordan who is now a respected Formula One pundit with the BBC stated:
'Bernie says one thing to your paper, another thing to a different paper, and another thing to me. It is out of control. Nobody knows whether he means what he says or even knows what he is saying.'
In a recent interview, Mr Ecclestone said that Formula One did not need young fans as they can't afford to go to Grand Prix and he stated that fans would not miss the Caterham or Marussia F1 Team's as both teams entered administration last month.
However while the Marussia F1 Team ceased trading and shut their doors on Friday 7th November, the Caterham F1 Team have battled on and after missing both the United States and Brazilian Grand Prix will take part in the season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.
Smith and Williamson, the administrators who are running the Leafield based outfit came up with the idea of crowd funding as a way of helping the team to race in Abu Dhabi and of the £2,35 million the team need to get to the race they have had financial pledges of £1,934,112.
Mr Jordan went on to say:
'One moment he said he wanted to help the smaller teams out of their financial trouble; then the next moment that he didn't care about them. He said they had come to him with begging bowls. And last week he said he did not want to get the younger generation interested in F1.
Perhaps if he doesn't want them and doesn't understand social media, he should hand over to someone who does.'
Jordan will be with the BBC for the final race of the 2014 season so it will be interesting to see if the Irishman gets an opportunity to interview Mr Ecclestone over the course of the race weekend.
