Valtteri Bottas ends opening morning of Abu Dhabi test fastest

The Williams Martini Racing team's Valtteri Bottas set the initial pace for the Grove based outfit as the end of season two day Abu Dhabi test got underway at the Yas Marina circuit on Tuesday morning. The Finn set a time of 1m 43.884s to finish the session 1.2s ahead of Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team's Nico Rosberg.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest setting a top of 1m 46.016s. The Italian tea were joined in the garage by new signing and former world champion Sebastian Vettel who will partner Raikkonen next season replacing Fernando Alonso at Maranello.

Carlos Sainz Jr driving for Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the first time since the Silverstone Young Driver Test was fourth fastest ahead of the Sauber F1 Team's Marcus Ericsson who was making his test debut for the Swiss based team having left the Caterham F1 Team towards the end of the 2014 season.

The Caterham F1 Team's Will Stevens who made his Formula One race debut with the Caterham F1 Team at last weekend's season finale in Abu Dhabi was 6th fastest and clocked up 50 laps for the Leafield based outfit just before the lunch break,

McLaren Honda's Stoffel Vandoorne didn't get a chance to get the MP4-29H1X1 interim car on track as they dealt with an electrical issue with their brand new power unit. The team are conducting initial shake down tests on the new power unit over the next two days. Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat crashe heavily at T 19 as a result of a front suspension failure.

The Sahara Force India's Joylon Palmer who is expected to take up the role of test driver at the Silverstone based outfit having won the 2014 GP2 championship was unable to complete his morning programme as he suffered a power unit failure.

Charles Pic is in action for the Lotus F1 Team but has yet to set a time.
