Witmann set for Toro Rosso test at the Imola circuit on Thursday

German Touring Car champion Marco Witmann will drive the 2012 Toro Rosso Formula One car at the Imola circuit in Italy on Thursday as a special reward for winning the 2014 DTM championship. The test has been arranged by BMW.

It will be the first time the German will have experienced driving a Formula One car. The test was organised by Red Bull, a major sponsor of the BMW German Touring Car team. The 25 year old has had previous experience racing in single seater categories such as the European Formula 3 championship where the German finished in second place to championship winner Roberto Merhi who recently drove for the Caterham F1 Team in a free practice session,

In 2012, Witmann moved to the DTM as a test driver for the BMW team before stepping up to a race seat in 2013.
