(McLaren Honda)

McLaren Honda Racing Director Eric Boullier has confirmed that Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen's points tally for the for the team in 2014 will have no baring on who will partner Fernando Alonso at the Woking based outfit next season as it is expected that the former Ferrari driver will rejoin them in 2015 having driven for the team in 2007 alongside Lewis Hamilton.

Button outscored Kevin Magnussen in 2014 and out-qualified the Dane 10 - 9 this season and Boullier stated that if the decision purely down to him and based on driver experience then his mind would be made up with Button remaining at the team however this is not the case.

It is believed that McLaren Group CEO Ron Dennis would prefer to retain Kevin Magnussen as the Englishman feels that the Dane is a better prospect for the future of of McLaren.

The final decision on who the second driver will be is ultimately with Mr Dennis as he is the company chairman, however it is understood that Fernando Alonso has made it clear that would prefer to see Button as his team mate with the team next season.

It is also believed that senior personnel within McLaren would also prefer to see Button retained for 2015.
