Red Bull Racing chief designer Adrian Newey has admitted that the way the new RB10 was packaged during the opening winter test in Jerez was to tight for the Renault engine and as a result affected the cooling of the engine.
Newey has said that the issue, which was on the teams side rather then on the Renault side was the fact that the bodywork near the exhaust was catching fire.
As result of the problems the team had they packed up early and headed back to their factory in Milton Keynes. Newey is confident that the team have found a solution to the cooling issues for the next winter test which gets underway in Jerez tomorrow morning.
Newey also admitted that due to the fact that the team were developing last year's car right up until the end of the season in 2013 that this really had an impact on their preparation for this season.
While their rivals switched focus to this season midway through the year Red Bull continued to bring new parts to the car right up until the end of the season and Newey believes that had the team been able to put the engine on the dyno earlier they would have been able to solve the overheating issue before the start of winter testing but has said that the blame lies solely at the door of Red Bull Racing and not Renault.
