Former F1 driver joins Audi Sport for the WEC

(Ben Johnston 2014 - Di Grassi joins Audi to replace Allan McNish)

Former F1 driver Lucas Di Grassi has been officially confirmed as Allan McNish's replacement at Audi sport for 2014.

Di Grassi, who drove for the Virgin Racing team (now Marussia) during their first season in Formula One in 2010. He left the team at the end of season. Prior to joining Virgin, the Brazilian was test driver for the Renault F1 Team.

Following his departure from Virgin, Di Grassi became Pirelli Motorsport's test driver as the Italian tyre manufacturer began its time in Formula One. Last season, the Brazilian drove alongside Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen and Loic Duval.

For the 2014 season, he will have a full time drive with the team for the full World Endurance Championship season that will include the 2014 LeMans 24 Hour race. He is not the only former F1 driver racing in the World Endurance Championship as former Red Bull driver Mark Webber will drive for the Porsche LMP1 project.

It will be interesting to see how Di Grassi gets on with Audi this season. Despite retiring from racing at the end of last year, speaking at the Autosport International Show last month, McNish confirmed that he would remain with Audi in an advisory role.

It was also announced last week that BBC F1 have signed the Scot as a pundit for this season.
