Ecclestone would like to see a new champion this year

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has said that he would like to see a new drivers champion crowned this season, and has tipped Mercedes AMG F1's Nico Rosberg to succeed this season.

Since 2010, Formula One has been completed dominated by Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel. So far in preseason testing Red Bull Racing has only managed to complete 21 laps compared to the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg who have completed 309 laps.

Due to the fact that the Brackley based squad were near the top of the time sheets in Jerez, Ecclestone believes that they are much further along in their preparation for the 2014 season after Nico Rosberg completed a full race simulation on the final day of testing.

Ecclestone, who was speaking to an India news agency also believes that the midfield teams could spring a surprise this season and he stated that he believes that Force India, who have claimed one podium since they began in F1 can win at least one race this season.

It is certainly going to be extremely interesting to see what happens in F1 this season.
