Simone De Silvestro joins the Sauber F1 Team as an affiliated driver and is aiming to be on the F1 grid for the 2015 Formula One season

The Sauber F1 Team confirmed on Friday morning that they have signed former IndyCar Series driver Swiss Simona De Silvestro.
 
Simona has driven in the American IndyCar for the past four season's and up until last season was racing for KV Racing Technologies. The Swiss based team have said that Simona's new role within the team will see her conduct testing and simulator work as she works towards gaining her FIA Super Licence.
 
The team have said that her new role with the team is to prepare her for a Formula One race seat in 2015.
 
De Silvestro will be the second female driver to be involved in Formula One as Susie Wolff is the development and test driver for the Williams F1 Team. Speaking about her new role with the Sauber team Simona said:
 
'This is a major step towards me achieving a life-long dream and I am so happy to have this opportunity with such a great team'
 
She went on to thank Sauber Team principal Monish Keltenborn and team owner Peter Sauber for their support and their belief in her abilities.
 
Simona's is an affiliated driver with the team and the Swiss outfit believe in her capabilities and the team will do everything they can to help her achieve her aim of driving in Formula One.
