The French hospital in Grenoble where Michael Schumacher is being treated following his skiing accident at the end of December have been forced to deny rumours that the seven time world champion had passed away.
Reports on social media emerged yesterday that he had succumbed to his injuries, however a statement was issued by the hospital to say that he had not died and that his sedation is still being gradually reduced.
The hospital also confirmed that he had been responding to simple instructions and reiterated the families wishes for the media to respect their privacy as some media outlets had converged outside the hospital to await news.
It is absolutely disgusting that people circulate these rumours and the people that do this should be utterly ashamed of themselves. The fact of the matter is that his family do NOT need these crazy rumours floating around at a time when the media and indeed the public should be rallying around his family and supporting them at this incredibly difficult time.
As his manager Sabine Kehm said the media need to STOP speculating and should rely only on official statements that are issued either through the hospital or circulated by her.
