First day at the office for Boullier

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in Eric Boullier's Formula One career as the former Lotus F1 Team principal officially starts his new job as McLaren Racing Director.

The Frenchman, who has spent the last years with the Lotus F1 Team now has just over a month to acquainted with his new colleagues and how the Woking based outfit operate before they along with the rest of the F1 grid head to Melbourne, Australia for the first race of the 2014 F1 season.

It is going to be extremely interesting to see how Boullier gets on at McLaren when you consider what he was able to do at Enstone with a limited budget. At McLaren, they have a much larger budget and more resources then Lotus and with Eric in place as Director of Racing it will be his job to ensure that the team make the most of their resources after an extremely disappointing 2013 F1 campaign which saw the team fail to score a single podium.

It was the team's worst season in the sport since 1980. Boullier turned around the fortunes of the Lotus F1 Team in the four years he was with the team. They finished fifth in the championship twice and fourth twice. He also brought Kimi Raikkonen back to F1.

Boullier's arrival at McLaren is the first in what is due to be a string of changes within the team in the coming weeks as recently reinstated McLaren Chief Executive Officer Ron Dennis is determined to return the team to winning ways this season.

It is as yet unclear as to when Boullier will make his first appearance for McLaren however, I expect that this could come in just over two weeks time at the second winter test at the Bahrain International Circuit. This would be extremely interesting as his former team, Lotus are due to run their new car, the E22 for the first at that test.
