The Lotus F1 Team announced on Thursday that former Marussia and Caterham driver Charles Pic has joined their line-up for 2014 as the team's official test and reserve driver.

The Frenchman joins countryman Romain Grosjean and new team signing Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado at the team. Pic lost his drive with the Caterham F1 Team at the end of last season having joined the Leafield based outfit from Marussia at the end of the 2012 season.

His new role at Lotus will include conducting simulator work at the team's HQ in Enstone and he will also fill in for Grosjean or Maldonado should either one of them be unable to fufil their driving duties. The Frenchman replaces Italian driver Davide Valechecchi who left the team at the end of last year.

Pic will also attend races with the team and will be involved in team briefings. He was in Bahrain on Thursday for a photo shoot with his new team mates.
