Alonso/Mercedes link up ruled out by Wolff

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has ruled out the possibility of Fernando Alonso moving to the Silver Arrows in the near future. It has been widely reported that the Spaniard is looking to move to the Mercedes team if a seat was to become available in 2016.

However Toto Wolff has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton will remain with the newly crowned constructors championship beyond his current contract that expires at the end of next season.The 2008 world champion heads to the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas in under three weeks time with a 17 point lead in the championship over team mate Nico Rosberg.

The German has a contract with the Brackley based outfit until the end of he 2017 season and Wolff has stated that he is seeking a similar long term contract extension for Lewis Hamilton.

After clinching his ninth win of the season, Lewis Hamilton said that he would sit down with the management at Mercedes at the end of the season to discuss a contract extension as the race for the title will be finished.

Following Sunday's Russian Grand Prix, Toto Wolff told Sky Sports News HQ;

'Nobody is going to take that seat away from him (Hamilton) until he decides so.'

Wolff along with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are expected to address staff at Mercedes in Brackley today after non executive director Niki Lauda did just that yesterday.
