Mercedes Executive Director (Business) Toto Wolff has reiterated that the team will wait to sit down with Lewis Hamilton to discuss a new contract until the conclusion of the 2014 season. He has reassured the 2008 world champion that the team are not considering anyone else for the seat along Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton goes into this weekend's United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas with a 17 point advantage at the top of the championship standings over team mate Nico Rosberg with just three Grand Prix remaining this season.
Hamilton will be hoping to continue his incredible run of victories this weekend having won every race since the Italian Grand Prix in Monza at the start of September.
Hamilton has taken nine victories this season compared to four for Rosberg. Wolff also addressed speculation linking Fernando Alonso with a move to the Silver Arrows in 2016 saying that the Brackley based outfit will only look elsewhere if negotiations with Lewis Hamilton break down.
Wolff has also confirmed that he feels the reason why the Brackley based outfit has progressed is because he and the management team have been left to get on with job by the board at Mercedes Benz but that they welcome input from Stuttgart.
Mercedes wrapped up the Constructors championship last time out at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit on their way to their ninth 1-2 finish of the season.
The team can now switch their focus to the drivers championship with both of their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg leading the way.
