(Jean Michel Le Meur DPPI for Renault Sport F1)

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz has stated that Jean Eric Vergne could be retained by Scuderia Toro Rosso next season. The Frenchman lost his drive when it was announced earlier this season that Ditch driver Max Verstappen would be joining Daniil Kvyat at the Italian outfit.

However it was announced on the eve of the Japanese Grand Prix that following the news that Sebastian Vettel is leaving Infiniti Red Bull Racing at the end of the year and will be replaced by Daniil Kvyat next season at the Miton Keynes based outfit. Mateschitz has stated that the team may opt for an experienced driver alongside Max Verstappen.

Mateschitz went on to say that he feels that Sebastian Vettel's decision to leave Red Bull was the right one for 'both parties'.

The Austrian also confirmed that for the last number of weeks they felt that something was wrong with the four time world champion and the change would be good for him and he and the team wish the German well in his future career.

It is expected that the German will join Ferrari as Kimi Raikkonen's team mate for 2015 replacing Fernando Alonso who is expected to join McLaren.
