Infiniti Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has revealed that reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel is likely to receive an engine penalty at the next race in Austin, Texas in just under three weeks time as Formula One 2014 heads into its closing stages and as Vettel enters his last three race's for the Milton Keynes based outfit following such an incredible phase of his Formula One career.
In Sochi following the Sunday's race Sebastian Vettel, who is on his final engine of the five allowed this season under the new engine regulations which state that team's are only allowed to run a maximum of five units stated:
The unit is reaching the end of its life-span.
Christian Horner stated:
'We have to look after what’s happened here but I think the reality is that Sebastian will take a sixth engine in Austin because it’s inevitable he’s going to have to use it, I don’t think this engine can really go too much further.'
If Vettel does indeed receive an engine penalty for using a sixth power unit at the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin Texas at the start of November he will have to start the race from the pit-lane. Vettel has yet to win a Grand Prix this season and it is unlikely that he will take victory in the US if he does indeed take a penalty.
The German won the event last season on his way to winning his fourth consecutive world championship title.
In contrast to Vettel, team mate Daniel Ricciardo has won three Grand Prix this season in Canada, Hungary and Belgium while picking up seven podium finishes including the wins.
