Force India still focusing on fifth place in the Constructors championship despite difficult Russian GP

The Sahara Force India Formula One Team are hopeful that they will be able to claw back the points deficit to McLaren Mercedes in Constructors championship to finish the season in fifth place in the championship despite a disappointing race in yesterday's inaugural Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit which saw the team claim just one point as Sergio Perez finished the race in 10th place while Nico Hulkenberg finished the race just outside the points in 12th place.

The Silverstone based outfit went into the Russian Grand Prix weekend one point ahead of McLaren and now go to the Us Grand Prix in Austin, Texas in three weeks time 20 points behind the Woking based outfit as Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen finished the race in 4th and 5th place respectively.

Speaking following the race, Sahara Force India F1 Team principal and managing director Dr Vijay Mallya said:

'It was a difficult race on a track on which overtaking is nearly impossible. Checo was able to make his way past some of the other cars and mounted an impressive defence against Felipe Massa to claim the final point.

Unfortunately his earlier overtakes had claimed a toll on fuel consumption and he had to give up his chase of Raikkonen to save fuel, otherwise ninth might have been possible. Nico's race was compromised by his grid penalty, but he did well to close in on the top ten.

This result complicates a bit the battle for fifth in the Constructors' Championship, but with three races left, including the double-points finale in Abu Dhabi, everything can still happen. We will keep working hard and give 100% to bring the battle down to the wire.'

Sahara Force India have had a fantastic season scoring their first podium since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix when Sergio Perez finished the Bahrain night race in third place just behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
