McLaren Mercedes Jenson Button has stated that he is 'not fearful' about the possibility of driving alongside Fernando Alonso at the Woking based outfit next season. McLaren are yet to confirm their 2015 driver line up with an announcement due prior to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the season. Although it is likely that Alonso will join McLaren it is thought that a sticking point is that the Spaniard is seeking just a one year agreement.
Speaking to Autosport Button stated:
'For me, working with any driver up and down the grid, nothing scares me of working with a World Champion, I've worked with two in the past - Jacques Villeneuve, when I was young, and with Lewis [Hamilton] for three years.'
The 2009 world champion is out of contract with the Woking based outfit at the end of the season having joined McLaren as reigning world champion in 2010. Button is currently in seventh place in the championship on 94 points while team mate Kevin Magnussen is in 10th place on 49 points.
Button continued by saying:
'I'm not fearful of any team-mate, and I find it exciting learning new people and the way people work, because it's not always what it might seem from the outside.'
McLaren head to the US Grand Prix in Austin Texas next weekend in 5th place in the Constructors championship on 143 points, 20 ahead of the Sahara Force India Formula One team.
Button has said that if the team decide to retain both himself and Kevin Magnussen he will be happy as they have a good working relationship.
