Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Executive Director (Technical) Paddy Lowe has praised Nico Rosberg's driving during Sunday's inaugural Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi circuit describing it as the best drive of the German's career despite his mistake going into turn 2 on the opening lap.
Lowe also revealed that he has been extremely impressed with how Rosberg has dealt with the pressure of competing for the championship as he had wondered how the German would handle it as it is the first time in his Formula One career that he has been in a position to challenge for the championship and Lowe has been delighted with how Rosberg has performed and coped with the situation.
Rosberg came from the back of the field following an early pit-stop to finish Sunday's Russian Grand Prix in second place behind team mate and championship leader Lewis Hamilton having completed an incredible 52 laps on a single set of the Pirelli P-Zero Medium compound tyre's.
This surprised Rosberg immensely but knew that it was possible. Rosberg heads to the next race in Austin, Texas 17 points behind Lewis Hamilton and will be hoping to close the gap to the 2008 world champion.
Hamilton, Rosberg and Lowe were all in attendance at the Silver Arrows Brackley HQ on Tuesday to continue the celebrations after they claimed their first ever Constructors championship in Sochi at the weekend. The hard work is far from over over the team though as they need to make sure that they continue the momentum and ensure that one of their driver's takes home the championship at the season finale in Abu Dhabi on November 23.
