McLaren Mercedes Jenson Button believes that the Woking based outfit still have to time to catch and overtake Ferrari to finish in fourth place in the Constructors championship. The Woking based outfit scored a fourth and fifth place finish in Sochi yesterday to move 20 points ahead of the Sahara Force India F1 Team.

McLaren are now 45 points behind Ferrari following yesterday's race. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 following the race Jenson Button commented by saying:

'I think we’ve made progress. It’s not all progress – some of it is the circuit – but hopefully we can show we have made progress in Austin.'

Button went on to say that McLaren could potentially challenge Ferrari:

'Only 45 points behind Ferrari. I know it’s a big ask, but last race is double points...we could possibly challenge them.'

It was Button's second top five finish in a row following his fifth place at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. The 2009 world champion was asked whether he would like to team up with Honda once again having driven with a Honda engine from 2003- 2008 Button stated:

'Yes, it would. But at the moment we’re taking it race by race. I’m enjoying it, enjoying racing. I think as a team we did a good job this weekend and I definitely got the maximum out of what I was given. It’s all you can do.'

Button scored his first ever Formula One victory with a Honda engine when he won the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix for the Honda F1 Racing team.

The 2009 world champion will be hoping that if McLaren decide to retain him in 2015 that they will have a compete car with Honda power as the Woking based outfit make the switch to the Japanese manufacturer.

McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier has stated that his team are not yet ready to make an announcement regarding their 2015 line-up at this moment in time but he admitted in Russia at the weekend that all options are being explored by the Woking based outfit.
