Australia to host opening race until at least 2020

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Organisers of the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne have confirmed that a clause in their contract stipulates that they will host the Formula One season opener until at least 2020.

AGPC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Westacott confirmed that the agreement with Formula One Management also stipulates that the race is held during daylight hours and this will remain the case.

There had been calls in recent years for the event to become a night race to full in line with European television audiences however this idea has been rejected. The 2015 Formula One season gets underway next weekend.
