Williams Martini Racing Team’s Valtteri Bottas is hopeful that the Grove based outfit will have been able to close the gap to Mercedes over the winter.

As the opening race of the 2015 Formula One season is just one week away many are predicting that Mercedes will once again like last year will be the team to beat. The Brackley based outfit won all but three Grand Prix last season with Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo the only non-Mercedes powered car to have taken victory.

Bottas has stated however that he will be happy if his team who finished the 2014 campaign in third place are closer to Mercedes this season. The Finn stated that he thinks his team’s preparations for the 2015 went to plan.

While Bottas is hopeful that the team have closed the gap to Mercedes, Williams Martini Racing Team Technical Director Pat Symonds believes that the outfit can realistically target Grand Prix victories in 2015 having come tantalizingly close on several occasions last season.

Symonds says that the ideal situation for this season would be for the team to consolidate their current position and possibly improve on it.
