New contract should be in place before the Malaysian Grand Prix

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that he is extremely close to signing a contract extension with the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and could have a deal in place before this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

The double world champion is in the final year of his initial three year contract with the Brackley based outfit.

Speaking to Sky Sports Hamilton confirmed that the contract is now with the lawyers and provided that there are no issues it should be signed and sealed before the end of the week and if not then in due course.

Hamilton and Mercedes always intended to continue their relationship it was just a case of sitting down and sorting out how long the new deal will be for.
