BREAKING - Alonso to miss Australian Grand Prix following medical advice

McLaren Honda have confirmed that Fernando Alonso will sit out the opening Formula One race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne following his testing accident in Barcelona last month.

The Spaniard was forced to miss the final winter test at the Circuit de Catalunya at the weekend and the Woking based outfit have confirmed that following medical advice Alonso should avoid environment risks following the concussion he suffered as a result of the accident.

As a result the team have confirmed that their test and reserve driver Kevin Magnussen will fill in for Alonso on the Australian grid alongside team mate Jenson Button. 

Alonso will now concentrate on preparations for a return to racing at the second race of the season in Malaysia which takes place from March 27 -29.
