Williams Martini Racing have confirmed that Valtteri Bottas has stepped up his efforts to drive at the Malaysian Grand Prix next weekend.

The Finn missed the season opening Australian Grand Prix last weekend after complaining of back pain following qualifying for the race. The team have now stated Bottas is currently in Indonesia as planned to acclimatise to the temperatures that can be expected in Malaysia next week. He is also receiving treatment from a top Physiotherapist.

The Grove based outfit also confirmed that they are fully supportive of Bottas and his attempt to get back to full fitness for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The team have also stated that as the FIA declared Bottas unfit to race in Australia means that the sport’s medical delegate before he can race next weekend. Should Bottas not be able to race the team will decide next week who drive alongside Felipe Massa having confirmed earlier this week that Susie Wolff is not their reserve driver but just their test driver.
