Closed cockpits easy to implement

(Williams Martini Racing Team)

Williams Martini Racing Team's Head of Performance Engineering Rob Smedley believes that it would be easy to introduce closed cockpits into Formula One. The idea was first mooted following Felipe Massa's accident at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix and has come up again following Jules Bianchi's accident during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Closed canopies similar to the one's on fighter jets could be a possible answer. Speaking about the idea, Smedley said:

'From a technical point of view it's something very easy to implement. It's something that we've looked at in lots of the technical working group meetings and we've been back and forwards.'

However it is too soon to discuss what needs to be changed and we should all continue to show are support to Jules and his family.
