FIA Formula One race director Charlie Whiting held a media briefing in Sochi on Friday to go through the key points following an initial investigation into Marussia drver Jules Bianchi's accident at last weekend's Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. The Finding were as follows:
- Not all drivers slowed down for yellow flags
- Green flag correctly shown
- Saw no need for safety car
- Helicopter would have made no difference
- Possible changes to design of safety vehicles
- Experiment to take control away from drivers
The FIA will introduce a slow down system where race control will determine the speed that drivers will do during a safety car or yellow flag period.
Another idea is to introduce a new system that would put a safer barrier aroud the recovery vehicle if a car needs to be removed.
