Mercedes non executive chairman Niki Lauda has confirmed that Fernando Alonso will not be joining the Silver Arrows as the Brackley based outfit are eyeing up a new deal for Lewis Hamilton of between two to three years. Hamilton, who currently leads the championship by three points heading into today's Japanese Grand Prix is out of contract at the end of next season and Lauda stated:
'For us it's clear because we never even discussed with him [Alonso] because Lewis has a contract for next year and Nico has two more years.'
Over the course of the Summer it was announced that Nico Rosberg has signed a new multi year contract extension with the Brackley based team.
Lauda went on to say:
'With Lewis now we're negotiating to renew his contract after '15. 100%. For two or three years. We're just talking to him how long does he do. We're all positive, he's positive this is going to happen.'
Mercedes have been utterly dominant this season and currently lead both championships as Formula One 2014 reaches its climax over the next month. Hamilton and Rosberg have taken eleven victories from the 14 race's so far this season.
Mercedes currently lead the Constructors championship by 174 points with five race's remaining this season starting with today's wet Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit.
