(Pirelli Motorsport Media)

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team' Lewis Hamilton may have won today's Russian Grand Prix in Sochi but it was his team mate Nico Rosberg who proved to be the star of the race coming from the back of the field following a mistake going into turn 1 cost him a chance of taking victory in today's race.

Rosberg went on to pit on the second lap and completed an incredible 52 laps on a set of the P-Zero White walled Medium compound tyre.

Three drivers completed two stop strategies with Williams Martini Racing's Felipe Massa, Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat and the Caterham F1 Team's Marcus Ericsson all stopping twice.

Mercedes Nico Rosberg completed the most amount of laps on the Medium compound tyre's completing 52 laps while the Sauber F1 Team's Adrian Sutil completed 40 laps, the most amount of any driver on the Soft compound tyre.

Valtteri Bottas completed the fastest lap of the day for the Williams Martini Racing Team on the Soft compound tyre with a 1m 40.896s.

Following the race, Pirelli Motorsport director Paul Hembery stated:

'Wear and degradation were extremely low at this brand new track in Sochi, which enabled most drivers to utilise a one-stop strategy and Nico Rosberg to claim second place after completing 52 laps on one set of tyres.

Congratulations to Mercedes for winning the constructors’ championship for the first time and we look forward to a continuation of the battle for the driver’s title. This has been a fantastically-organised event here in Russia and we’ve been made to feel extremely welcome at this amazing venue.'
