Ferrari and Fernando Alonso look set to be heading a split. Infiniti Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner confirmed this morning that Ferrari had made Sebastian Vettel what he (Horner) described as

'A very attractive offer'.

It is unclear what Alonso will do next but the confirmation of his move away from Maranello will pave the way for the Spaniard to rejoin McLaren for whom he drove for in 2007.

Alonso, who has been with Ferrari since 2010 has endured a number of difficult season's with the Italian team and had apparently been growing impatient with speculation rife on Thursday as the team's arrived in Japan that his departure from the team was imminent.

McLaren are still yet to make a decision on their line up for next season with team CEO Ron Dennis confirming in Japan:

'I understand they'd like to feel more comfortable than they do at the moment but it's just not necessary for us to take any decisions yet. We're waiting to see how things pan out down the pit lane.'

We obviously talk to any driver who could be on the market but we are very comfortable with what we've got; we just don't see the need to take any decisions yet. We talk to everybody.'

Ferrari have confirmed that there will be NO DRIVER announcement in the short term
