Former Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello was set for a sensational return to Formula One for the final three Grand Prix of the 2014 season with the Caterham F1 Team driving alongside Marcus Ericsson until the Leafield based outfit went into administration.

It has been revealed that 42 year old Barrichello lost his job from Brazilian TV as a reporter for breaking the station's protocol by constantly using abbreviations such as referring to Red Bull Racing as RBR. Globo Television were also reportedly unhappy as Barrichello felt that he was still a Formula One driver and that he was using his position to offer his services to teams in the pit-lane.

It has now emerged that the Brazilian who last raced in Formula One with the Williams team in 2011 was indeed in line for a sensational return to the sport with the Caterham F1 Team for the final three Grand Prix of the season replacing Kamui Kobayashi having reached an agreement with Brazilian Grand Prix promoter Colin Kolles who was also acting as adviser to the Caterham F1 Team.

A spokesperson from the Caterham told foxsports.com:

'We would have run Barrichello in the last three races, we had sponsorship for this and everything was going the right way. It would have been fantastic for F1.'

Barrichello who is the most experienced driver to have to competed in Formula One with 326 race starts from 1993 - 2011 commented by saying:

'It would have been great to race in front of my people once again and say goodbye properly.'
