Formula One teams have rejected a plan to change the current safety car regulations. The teams met in Sao Paulo over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend to discuss the matter.
One idea that was tabled for discuss among the Sporting Regulations working group was that lapped drivers would be allowed to overtake the safety car and would be credited a lap. This idea was taken off the table however as the group that it would cause problems and confusion in relation to gathering timing data.
The current safety car regulations see lapped traffic allowed to overtake the safety car and join the back of the field with the safety car staying out until the lapped traffic has linked up to the back of the field.
The teams also rejected the idea of crediting a lap as teams felt that it would give lapped cars a fuel advantage due to having not completed the credited lap as fuel is limited to 100KG for the race.
