Money not the issue for Button

(McLaren Mercedes)

Jenson Button has confirmed that money is not an issue when it comes to whether or not he will stay with McLaren for next season. The important the 2009 world champion is whether he is wanted at the team or not.

Speaking to the media in Brazil over the weekend Button said:

'Whatever happens next year, the money is not the issue in any way, shape or form - for me anyway.' Whether I am racing here or somewhere else, I will do it because I love it. Naturally I still want to earn money because I feel I have achieved and I feel I should get paid for what I do in an Formula 1 car or a racing car, and for what I bring to a team.'

It is expected that McLaren will announce Fernando Alonso as one of their drivers for next season alongside Kevin Magnussen however Jenson Button's recent form has shown that he is still extremely competitive and capable of challenging for strong points finishes in a far from competitive car.

The 2009 world champion has also outscored Kevin Magnussen on on a consistent basis and is currently in seventh place in the championship while Magnussen is currently in 10th place just two points ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Williams co-founder and the teams former technical director Patrick Head said that if it was up to him he would retain Button to have two world champions at the team and he feels that this would help the teams transition with new engine partner Honda.

In relation to what the team should do with Magnussen, Head believes that McLaren should try and place the Dane with another team as they won't want to lose to him.
