Mercedes Nico Rosberg lead a team 1-2 in first of today's free practice sessions ahead of Sundays German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring. The German set a time of 1m 19.131s finishing just 0.065s ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari's Fernando Alonso was third fastest for the Italian team 0.292s behind Rosberg. It was a great session in searing heat for Infiniti Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo as the Australian once again finished ahead of team mate Sebastian Vettel ending the session in fourth place.
McLaren's Jenson Button did a great job as the team brought forward new parts for this weekend's German Grand Prix as the 2009 world champion finished the session in 5th place just ahead of reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel as a number of teams struggled during the session running wide as a result of them pushing the cars to the limit running without the FRIC suspension system.
Kevin Magnussen finished the session in 7th place just ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen who had a water pump problem early on in the session. Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat was in 9th place. Adrian Sutil rounded out the top ten for the Sauber F1 Team.
Williams Martini Racing's Felipe Massa finished the session in eleventh place on a slightly disappointing morning session for the Grove based outfit however it is still very early in the weekend. Jean Eric Vergne was 12th fastest just ahead of the Sahara Force India F1 Team duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez who finished the session in 13th and 14th place respectively.
Susie Wolff was back in action for the Williams Martini Racing Team this morning as she took part in her second consecutive Free Practice session. It was difficult start and it was thought that she would end her day early as she slowed on her opening lap of the morning however after an extremely quick turnaround and reset following a a gear selection problem. She did a fantastic job ending the session in 15th place just two tenths of a second behind team mate Felipe Massa.
Wolff finished the session just ahead of fellow test driver Giedo Van Der Garde who was driving the Sauber C33 in place of Esteban Gutierrez.
The Lotus F1 Team duo of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado ended the session in 17th and 18th respectively. Grosjean suffered a DRS failure on the E22 which resulted in the team having to replace his rear wing.
Kamui Kobayashi finished the session in 19th place for the Cateham F1 Team amid speculation surrounding the future of both of their drivers.
Jules Bianchi finished the session in 20th place just ahead of Marcus Ericsson in the second Caterham with Max Chilton rounding out the time-sheets. Free Practice two gets underway at 1PM (Irish and UK time and is live on Sky Sports F1HD)
