American racing driver Alexander Rossi has confirmed that he last both the Caterham F1 Team and the Caterham GP2 outfit. The 22 year old who had been with the Leafield based since 2011 has stated that his aim remains to gain a full time Formula One drive. Speaking about his decision to leave the team Rossi said:
'I'm very thankful to everyone at Caterham throughout the time I have worked with the team," "We had meetings over the past couple months with the previous and new management. The decision we took to leave Caterham is the right decision for my career.'
Rossi went on to say:
'I take with me only the positives from my time there, where I logged considerable F1 mileage, driving each of their F1 cars since Lotus Racing entered the F1 World Championship in 2010. I have proven my abilities in F1 equipment, in both testing and free practice sessions, and I'm ready for the next step.'
The news that Rossi has left Caterham and is aiming to get a drive in Formula One comes as Gene Haas gets ready to launch his Formula One Team Haas Formula in 2016. Rossi has experience driving the lastest Formula One cars that feature the 1.6 litre V6 turbocharged engines.
Gene Haas has stated that he would like to field an American driver in 2016 and as Rossi has experience with the new generation of Formula One car he is a logical choice but we'll have to wait and see what Haas decides to do.
