Sauber F1 Team principal Monisha Keltenborn has responded to the sudden departure of Simona De Silvestro from the Swiss outfit. It was announced earlier this week that due to contractual issues De Silvestro is no longer involved with the outfit and will take part in the planned test at the Circuit of The America's in Austin, Texas next month.
Speaking to Autosport prior to this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, Keltenborn stated:
'For us, it was from the beginning just about wanting to help her, and I have particularly done that from day one when she came to our offices in Hinwil and explained what she wanted to do, That's the world out there. You can personally like something, and want to support something as much as you can, but I have my responsibilities as well.'
Keltenborn went on to say that she has a responsibility to the team but praised the Swiss driver's determination to gain a full time drive in Formula One. Prior to her departure from the team De Silvestro showed great pace in a two year old Sauber F1 car having previously driven in the IndyCar Series in America.
Despite the fact that she will not drive in Austin, Keltenborn has not closed the door on her involvement with the team however she has said that it is up to Simona's management to decide what they want to do next.
Despite making the tough call, Keltenborn has stated that she wants to continue to support De Silvestro in any way she can and that they are working hard to find a place for that is the best option for her future.
