Powell hoping to make F1 debut with the Caterham F1 Team at the season finale in Abu Dhabi if the team can raise the money to finish the season

British female racing driver Alice Powell is hoping to follow in the wheel tracks of Williams Martini Racing test and development driver Susie Wolff by taking part in a Grand Prix weekend as she is currently attempting to get a drive with the Caterham Formula One team.

The Leafield based outfit along with rivals Marussia went into administration last month with Marussia officially ceasing trading last Friday however at Caterham the team launched an ambitious crowd-funding campaign in order to raise the £2.35 million that would enable them to go racing at the 2014 Formula One season finale at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi next weekend.

The team have until Friday to raise the money needed to travel to Abu Dhabi and as of Tuesday the team had raised £1.18 million. 

Powell has confirmed that out of the many thousands of fans who pledged funds to the team her Grandfather has also pledged funds to the team. Speaking to the BBC, Powell said:

'If I got to race in free practice for Caterham that would be amazing.'

Speaking to BBC Radio Oxford about what her grandfather is doing the 21 year old commented:

'He is putting in some of the money and he has managed to raise some of the money and there are some other backers that are trying to join forces as well.'
