Red Bull have no intention to run a third car

Infiniti Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner has stated that the Milton Keynes based outfit have not been requested to run to a third car next season and even if they been he has stated that it would be too expensive for them to do so.

It was revealed on Tuesday that the team who have dominated Formula One from 2010-2013 spent £196 million in 2014. The cost of running a third car could be as much as £35 million and Horner revealed that if the team had been asked to run a third car in 2015 they would have had to start work on it three months ago.

The Englishman also stated that despite reports over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend that they and Ferrari were set to run a third car in 2015, the quadruple world champions have no plans at all to run a third car.

The field has to drop to sixteen cars before the obligation to run a third car comes into affect and this has not happened.

The Caterham and Marussia F1 Team's are hoping to be on the grid for the season finale in Abu Dhabi next weekend and if they are not on the grid there will still be 18 cars on the grid and if that remains the case next season they will be no need to run a third car as in 2016 the Haas F1 Team will be on the grid which would bring the numbers on the grid up to 20 cars.
