Alonso won't get into engine noise debate

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has said that he will get drawn into the debate about the engine sound of Formula One following the introduction of the new quieter 1.6 litre turbo charged V6 power units for this season after criticism from a number of different people in the sport.

Speaking to the media on the same day that his rival Sebastian Vettel described the new sound as 'Shit' Alonso stated:

'This is a very uncomfortable matter to speak about, because if I say I like this Formula One, I will be criticised because this is no longer Formula One for the fans. If I say I don't like this Formula One the fans will criticise because I only like it when I win.

The Spaniard, who won back to back driver's championships in 2005 and 2006 believes that the sport needs to be given more time for the new Formula and regulations to bed in properly before a definitive answer on the new sound can be given.

He also stated that he hopes that this weekend's race in Malaysia will be fantastic and that the sport will put on a fantastic show. Alonso heads to Sepang following a fourth place finish while Kimi Raikkonen finished the race in 7th place much to the disappointment of the Italian team so they will be hoping for a more competitive weekend this time out.
