Encouraging signs for Red Bull - Vettel

(Eric Vargiolu - DPPI - Renualt Sport F1)

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has stated that he believes the Milton Keynes based team have done better then expected. The German and his team endured a horrendous start to the 2014 Formula One campaign after he retired from the race with a power unit failure.

Speaking ahead of next weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix Vettel said: 'We still have a lot of work to do with the car but it was encouraging to see that our pace was better than expected in Australia.'

The quadruple world champion went on to say 'Hopefully we can build on that and start collecting some strong points in the next two races'.

The next race at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia next weekend is the scene of Sebastian Vettel's most controversial race win when he deliberately disobeyed team orders to hold station behind Mark Webber to take the win.

This time last year Red Bull Racing headed to Malaysia having scored 23 points in the opening race of the season. This year however, following Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification in Australia the team have no points. The disqualification will be appealed on April 14.

Vettel believes that there are a number of different challenges that the teams will face next weekend and not just from the circuit but also the weather conditions as it is expected to be extremely hot in Malaysia next weekend and there will more then likely be rain as the race takes place at the height of the Malaysian monsoon season.
