Haas expects decision on F1 entry in two weeks

(Chuck Burton AP)

Gene Haas, the man behind what he hopes will be Formula One's newest team has he revealed that he hopes a final decision on his Formula One entry will be made by the FIA within the next two weeks.

Haas is just one  of two candidate's vying for an entry on the F1 grid either as early as next season or from 2016. Haas has also stated that he is in advanced talks with Ferrari over a customer supply of the Italian manufacturers 1.6 litre turbocharged engines. There have been no details given about the second entry only that the team has Romanian backers.

When he announced his intention to lodge an application into Formula One Gene Haas said that the team would have two bases one in the US and one at his company's European HQ. At present there is just one place available on the grid however, the potential is there if the FIA see that both team's are financially viable that they will grant both teams entry into Formula One.

The last American to be involved in running a Formula One team was Bobby Rahal who ran Jaguar Racing in 2000 however he returned to the US to concentrate on running his IndyCar operation.
