(Wikipedia)

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed that he is in talks for Azerbaijan where a street race could be held in the capital Baku.

It is believed that former Renault F1 boss Flavio Briatore would act as the race organiser. The Italian has many business interests in Azerbaijan. It is believed that any race would take place either next season or more likely in 2016.

Briatore was sacked by the Renault F1 Team in 2009 following his role in the 'Crashgate' scandal at the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008.

Azerbaijan is well known for the Eurovision song contest and having a Grand Prix in the capital would be fantastic for the country. If the race goes ahead it would mean there would be up to 22 race's on the Formula One calendar as New Jersey is set to go next year.

Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus and is located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe.
