Red Bull lodge appeal following Daniel Ricciardo's Australian Grand Prix disqualification

Reigning world champions Red Bull Racing has confirmed that they have lodged a formal appeal against Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification from last weekend's Formula One season opener in Melbourne Australia where Ricciardo finished the race on the podium in second place just behind Mercedes AMG's Nico Rosberg.

The Australian was disqualified from the race after the race stewards found that the team had exceeded consistently the 100KG/H limit during the race.

Red Bull Racing used their own fuel sensor rather then using the FIA's sensor which the teams used. The reason the Milton Keynes based squad used their own sensor is because they said that the FIA's system was unreliable. However, earlier today McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier confirmed that the teams had been working with the FIA since January that teams were told that they could not ignore fuel readings.

The FIA has yet to confirm a date for the appeal which will be held by the World Motorsport Council so until the appeal is heard and the outcome is reached Kevin Magnussen's second place finish and Jenson Button's third place are provisional.
