Mercedes and Williams ahead of the pack heading to Melbourne

(Mercedes AMG F1 PETRONAS Team)

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali believes that both The Mercedes and the Williams teams are in a better position in their preparation for the first race of the 2014 season in Melbourne Australia then the Italian team.

Over the course of the pre-season testing period Ferrari covered in the region of 4,000KM whereas Williams and Mercedes have clocked up close to 5,000KM. Williams had a fantastic pre-season test as their new car the FW36 proved to be extremely reliable with Valtteri Bottas stopping on track for the very time just before the end of the final day of testing as his Mercedes power unit failed.

Ferrari have had a number of reliability issues with their new F14T and as a result of this the team have fallen behind their rivals so they have plenty of work to do in order to catch up.

Kimi Raikkonen will head to the Ferrari factory this week to carry out some simulator work before heading to Melbourne for the opening race of the season.

The Mercedes powered team's of Mercedes, McLaren, Williams and Sahara Force India have proven to be extremely quick and Ferrari are the fastest of the rest of the F1 field.

The first race of the new season is going to be an extremely interesting event as it is expected that not a lot of driver's will finish the first race. The Red Bull Racing team managed to complete a race simulation on the final day of winter testing, however over at Lotus they failed to complete a race simulation so they are just one of a number of team's who head to Australia on the back foot.
