Toro Rosso a month behind their rivals

(Bernard Asset - Renault Sport F1)

Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost has followed the lead of sister team Red Bull Racing by admitting that his team are behind schedule in their preparation for the 2014 season. Last week Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko suggested that the world champions are two months behind schedule.

Toro Rosso are just one month behind schedule and Tost has stated that he have like one, two or three weeks of extra testing despite this however he has also said that the team should not be despondent as he feels that they made good progress over the course of the final two days of testing in Bahrain.

This season Toro Rosso have made the switch from Ferrari to Renault power and will use an identical power train to their sister team. Tost has stated that the teams main focus for the first few Grand Prix is to work on the reliability of the STR09, he conceded however that they are some technical issues with the new power unit that Renault are aware of.

This season the team have retained Frenchman Jean Eric Vergne and have brought in Red Bull junior driver Daniil Kyvat who has replaced Daniel Ricciardo who has made the move up to Red Bull Racing.

Tost has said that the tem will wait and see where they stand following the first race but he is aware that it will take them time to find their feet with the new processes. He is fully confident that Renault will be able to iron out the issues that they encountered over the course of winter testing.
