McLaren have turned things around

(McLaren Mercedes)

McLaren have turned a corner in 2014 according to Jenson Button. The 2009 champion believes that the Woking based squad are in better shape heading to Malaysia then they have been in recent times.

The team touch down in Malaysia this weekend following an extremely positive opening race in Australia last weekend which saw both Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button finish on the podium in second and third place respectively.

As a result the Woking squad lead the championship with 33 points, 8 points ahead of Mercedes. Button stated: 'Australia was an extremely motivational race for the entire time - even though we still have work to do, it feels like we've turned a corner and that we have a race car we can definitely work with this year.

Speaking about the next race, Button said: 'Sepang is a great driver's circuit, even if we don't have the overall down force we want, we should have the balance and the driveability to make the car work.

The Sepang circuit has always been a happy hunting ground for Button as he secured his first ever F1 podium here in 2004 when he finished in third place for BAR-Honda. Button won the race in Sepang in 2009, his championship winning season with Brawn Grand Prix.
